hamentaschenTonight at sundown begins the Jewish holiday of Purim, commemorating the rescue of the Jews during the Babylonian exile.

To make a long tale short, King Achashveirosh had an advisor Haman who plotted to kill the Jews.
His plans were foiled by the efforts of the righteous Mordechai and Esther.

Among other celebrations, you're supposed to wear costumes and get drunk, and also give at least two ready-to-eat kosher food gifts to another person, preferably via someone else. :)
