Goodbye Ernie

Beatles' L.A. Security Chief dead at 80
From Dan Jordan in West Covina, CA

I have some very sad news to report. My wife and I are friends of Jo and Ernie Padilla. It is with great sadness that I am reporting that Ernie Paddilla, who was Chief of Security to the Beatles at their two performances at the Hollywood Bowl and Dodger Stadium, has passed away. Ernie was 80 years old.

Ernie died from smoke inhalation in a home fire which consumed the entire home. Many rare photographs and Beatle items given to Ernie and his Daughter, were lost in the blaze.

The memorial service for Ernie will be on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn in Covina Hills which is at 21300 E. Via Verde St. in Covina. Donations in Lieu of Flowers can be made in Ernie Padilla's name to Little Flower Missionary House, which is located at 2434 Gates St. in Los Angeles, CA 90031.

A book about Ernie and his career was in the final stages. When more details about its release become available, they will be posted here.

If you would like to send email condolences, email them to me at and I will forward them on to Jo and the family.

Eyn imglik iz far im veynik. One misfortune is too few for him.
Shteyner zol zi hobn, nit kayn kinder. She should have stones and not children.
Azoy fil ritzinoyl zol er oystrinkn. He should drink too much castor oil.
Oyf doktoyrim zol er dos avekgebn. He should give it all away to doctors.
Zol er krenken un gedenken. Let him suffer and remember.
Zalts im in di oygen, feffer im in di noz. Throw salt in his eyes, pepper in his nose.
Shteyner af zayne beyner. Stones on his bones.
Trinkn zoln im piavkes. Leeches should drink him dry.
Lakhn zol er mit yashtherkes. He should laugh with lizards.

In Yiddish, eppes = something, and stein = stone.
So Epstein is translated to mean
"something stone" or "a stone something" -- ?
Ooh, sounds inviting... XD

    "Revolved" Beatles mashup "LP"

Continuing on the amusing sayings in our ancestral languages ...

I'm about 1/4 Irish, so now I should look for clever little Irish/Gaelic sayings:

Ná glac pioc comhairle gan comhairle ban

Never take advice without a woman's guidance

And a little more off-color:

tigh na galla = son of a bitch
cacadair = shitebag
fein-riaradair = wanker
Thalla is dean cac mhor bhuidhe!
= away and do a big yellow shite!

Okay, sometime maybe I'll look for sayings from the rest of my boring whitebread ancestry: I did the Irish from the Scots-Irish, but that was Gaelic, and they say there are NO swears in Celtic! The easy one will be French (Actually French-Canadian) "merde!" etc.etc... but, then we've got Swedish and Polish.
........Naahhh. I've lost interest. :\

Go n-ithe an cat thú is go n-ithe an diabhal an cat
May the cat eat you and the devil eat the cat

Aithníonn ciaróg ciaróg eile
A beetle recognizes another beetle
(Similar to the English phrase, "Birds of a feather flock together")

Is minic a bhris béal duine a shrón
Many a time a man's mouth broke his nose

I hear Steph watching Mucha Lucha ... eeuuwww!

Nazis, Who, Beach Boys, and Batman's boners!!!

Nazi Germany's official position regarding jazz music, circa 1938 [adamkempa]
This is not a fake.

The Who / Beach Boys Mash-Ups [adamkempa]
Not anywhere near as cool as the Revolved music mashes ... But here's a link just in case you wanna hear it anyway.

And the OMFG award goes to:
The Boners of Batman!
With all the talk about the Batpole and the Batcave, I'm not surprised to see Batman discussing boners with the Boy Wonder. But The Joker?
Remember when the word "boner" meant a stupid mistake? Authentic original frames of old Batman comics give the old term a brand new lease on life! (It took me a long time to read these few  panels because I had to keep wiping my eyes. And my stomach hurts now. Damn!)
