In my weekly quest to fulfill my Sunday obligation, I happenchanced upon this tasty morsel ~ it caused a bit of WTF/LOL in eppyloverville.
As per usual, I don't want to be defriended by any flisters who choose to subscribe to the invisible unproveable (i.e., religion). So just don't click the LJ-cut, okay? :)
Christians against anti-bullying Posted May 7, 2008 on mnspeak.com
The Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative Christian group located in Arizona, urges Minneapolis Public Schools not to implement their new anti-bullying program, which they feel propagates the "homosexual agenda".

(New York City) The leader of a conservative Christian lobby group appears to suggest that gays should be required to wear warning labels, although he denies that was his intention.

THE USUAL SUNDAY DISCLAIMER:
Once again, please do not click the link nor the LJ-cut if you don't want to get religiously ticked-off at me. Let me stew and ignore me if thou wilts (sic).
A recent comment to a flister rung a bell, so I did a search with my LJ Archive program, and sure enough, back in April 2006 I made { THIS POST } ~ which (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) is probably worth a re-perusal for me flisters.
Anyway, here is the recent comment that jogged my memory:

And thusly I fulfill my obligation for a sunday sermon.

Sunday Sermon ~ What Religion is Superman (and other comic book characters)?

I've never been particularly fond of comic books (other than the occasional Mad Magazine of my big brother's when I was an adolescent)...
...but since I owe a Sunday religion-oriented post, and I'm aware many of you do love old comics, I came across this very comprehensive site which seems to present the best of both worlds.
Enjoy, superhero fans! XD

Okay, here's something I should have posted yesterday (Saturday a.k.a. Shabbos).
Purim is coming up, commencing at sunset Thursday, March 20 and ending at sunset Saturday, March 22 When Is - Dates of Religious and Civil Holidays Around the World
This year, I really wish I could find out what hamentaschen taste like. Oh, and I've also always wondered about kreplach, since I've absolutely loved that word like forever. Stupid reason, but yeah!

Because we peons residing at the eppylover hovel are not blessed to receive any TV cable other than what Comcast calls "preferred basic" ~ no digital, no pay channels, nuthin' ~ I owe my eternal gratitude to carrotcaper2007 for hooking me up with the Penn & Teller vids on YouTube.
Therefore, for today's SS, my sweet religious flisters need not click ~ because for you the skeptical scientific truth would indeed seem quite what you'd call "blasphemy" ~ such a quaint term ~ and, as for finding humor therein? A disgrace! (Og's fave word, especially in reference to "dem homos" he so disparages.)
And we love y'all for hanging around for the cause of Eppy. So, to paraphrase our Richie, please "pass me by" today, O lovers of the Bible. :)
All others, please be aware that avast ye! there be vulgar language ahead, maties. But, it be in appropriate context, IMHO. Y'arrrr!

Back in a non-cut general audience mode, I must confess that I have a bit of a crush on the great Michael Shermer. A skeptic after my own heart ♥ xD Michael Shermer on The Colbert Report
~*~ ♥ ~*~
Also, I've always had a crush on Teller.
I did a tiny bit of innertubes research on him. "Teller" is his full legal name; no first or middle name, simply "Teller" ~ which is also what it says on his passport (he being one of the few allowed that luxury)! That's cool. I'd love to have "Christine" as my only name. (BTW, George Carlin despises the pretentiousness of people who go by one name, hahaa. Tough cookies, Carlin. We don't always agree.)
Also, I found their pre-Penn&Teller occupations very amusing in their contrast with each other and with their present occupations: What did P&T do before they started working together?
Penn worked as a juggler on the New Jersey boardwalk and attended Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Clown College.
Teller taught high school Latin in Lawrenceville, NJ. Source Penn&Teller.com

Perhaps I'm more illiterate than I make out to be, but...
Ever hear of Thomas Merton?
( Behind this cut ~ just a bit of my usual anti-theism ~ so, religious flisters please skip this part )
Aug. 27,1967
The certified letter came today and by the time you get this you will have got back the little pink card showing the letter was not eaten by weasels.
I am terribly sorry to hear about Brian Epstein. I'll say Mass for him Sept. 5. Did I ever tell you that once on a radio program he was asked to name his favorite book and named The Seven Storey Mtn., only with its English title, Elected Silence? [Eppylover Note: Merton's referring to his own book]
I always felt closer to him after that -- glad, of course, that he brought out the Beatles. Glad they are working on their meditation. COPYRIGHT 1993 National Catholic Reporter
[Eppylover Note #2: Brian had nothing against meditation, but he was quite worried about their dalliance with the Maharishi ~ because he believed Maha was taking gross advantage of his Boys ~ and he was proven right, y'know. :/ ]
( I'm also tickled with the following Beatle-related quotes from the article... )

| » Hi for a minute ~ Sunday Sermon, Shabbat Shmooze, & Update |
I'm putting up a short post using Stephy's laptop (which she's already pushing me off of, blast it all) to tell y'all I'm still alive. As if.
In exchange for her kindness, she requires that I publish her latest fave Jeebus pic. If you don't know the Katamari game, you won't get it.
( Not for the easily offended ) I'm still working at setting up the new 'puter. Every time I turn around it seems I have forgotten to transfer something over, and must access the external hard drive again. This holiday season is also a bit more tumultuous than usual, so I'm existing mainly in the brick&mortar world lately. Until everything's all set on the 'puter, I shall not connecticate it to the innertubes.
Also, since I have missed the shmooze yesterday, here's a link that I've had sitting around ~ Beatley and Briany people might find it interesting, in a Jewishy sorta way. Or not. Volunteers drive eclectic learning at LimmudLA The Jewish Journal of greater L.A - Los Angeles,CA,USA ... Angeleno Judy Aronson attended a session on the Jews and the Beatles, where she sat next to the former neighbor of Beatle's manager Brian Epstein. ...
Um. Yikes. Stephy has now set her phaser on "kill" and the mom must beam out.
Have a nice New Years Eve if I'm not back!

Sorry I haven't been "with you" the past couple days. I've been feeling rather shite-y, and a little busier at the same time.
While going through greeting cards to buy a few for the birthday bash we had for me mum & dad (Stephy's grands), and me nephew-in-law, I happened across a card that spoke to me so very strongly and humourously.
In fact, I was rather pleasantly shocked:

It was almost a toss-up whether to put this on a Saturday or Sunday post. Since Christians do tend to scream and whine "sacrilege" far more than Jews, Sunday won. XD

| » Sunday Sermon ~ Household Hints from Teh Bible! |
Enjoy the following tidbits from the book, The Year of Living Biblically by A.J. Jacobs ~ I know I got a chuckle out of them! _____________
Jacobs writes: For my new book, The Year of Living Biblically, I attempted to follow all the rules of the Bible, from the famous (e.g., love thy neighbor) to the strangely ignored (e.g., don't wear clothes of mixed fibers).
It was a surprising and perspective-changing year. I was taken aback by how relevant many of the Bible's rules are to modern life. The laws about lying, gossiping, and coveting come to mind, since I live in New York. I was also surprised at how much practical information the Bible contains. I expected the wisdom and spirituality; I didn't expect the helpful household hints. ( So I've decided to take a few questions... )
Esquire Editor-at-Large A.J. Jacobs is the author of A Year of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible. The book, published by Simon & Schuster, will be out this October. You can buy it by following the link at the bottom of the original article. ©2007 Hearst Communications, Inc.
On a related note, I SO love some of the comments following [ this blog post ] ...hope they make up for my lack of a rant this time!

Part 2 ~ A very different, pre-Mr Bean Rowan Atkinson from a UK show called "Not The Nine O'Clock News" ~ ( Click for embedded video 'Songs Of Praise' )
If you'd rather watch it directly on the YouTube website: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2GFfpgTBt0
I say "very different Rowan Atkinson" because we don't know him as anything but Mr Bean here in the US ~ I encourage Mr Bean haters to look at some of his "Not The Nine O'Clock News" sketches; they may change your mind. Not about Bean, about Atkinson, hahaa.
Bean creeps out Stephy to da max.
Personally, I think Mr Bean has his moments, and he's got a cult following ~ but, as much as I like Rowan the actor, his character Bean is a one-trick pony and gets old real quick with me.
IMO, Rowan ~ NOT as "Bean" ~ would ROCK as a regular on a Seinfeld-type show, or even a Tim-Allen-"Home Improvement" type of sitcom.
Have a nice Labor Day, for what it's worth! :)
