Shabbat Shmooze ~ I Heart Allan Sherman

EPPYLOVER SAYS: Allan Sherman is much, MUCH more than just "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah (Camp Grenada)"...! I myself am proud to have owned, since forever, and on glorious original vinyl, the LP's My Son The Folk Singer, My Son The Celebrity, and My Son The Nut
The Parody’s Over: Whither Our Era’s Mickey Katz or Allan Sherman? Essay
By David Kaufmann Tue. Jan 08, 2008

In the 11 months since it was released on YouTube, Leah Kauffman’s parody of Justin Timberlake, “My Box in a Box,” has been viewed more than 4 million times. Her “I’ve Got a Crush…on Obama” — out since June 2007 — has been hit close to 5 million times.
Like Kauffman, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, “Reno 911” and “The Simpsons,” bless them, have done what they can to restore parody to its once prominent position in American comedy.
Nevertheless, their welcome success cannot hide the fact that at the movies, on television and on the radio, parody is just not as big as it was. While there is a lot of funny stuff going around these days, there just isn’t as much good, old-fashioned parody.
Especially Jewish parody. ( I’m sensitive to this because... )the sanctioned tumult, the wild rumpus of anarchism, which, as Gershom Scholem claimed, lies at the very heart of Judaism.

"What every snail thinks when you pick them up."
- Read History.
Please note that this does not refer to the Beatles' manager, whose name is spelled Epstein.
Just thought I would make that point perfectly clear. Good night.

Stephy *SCARED* me with this HAMBURGER CLOWN video!
This Japanese Ronald McDonald commercial is run on TV as a normal Ronald simply doing his hands thing and saying his shpiel ~ which, translated, comes out as: "Ran ran ru! When Ronald is happy, he does this. Come on everyone, join in! Ran ran ru!" Well, this fella did some "vid magic" on Ronald's commercial, and it came out quite... nightmarish... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ld7J6AmAg4

As we all know, the little Lord Jesus MUST have a tree larger than THEIR menorah.
From The American Chronicle.com (California) Thursday, December 6, 2007 Menorah Envy Robert Paul Reyes "LONG BEACH, N.Y. - Residents don't want to have themselves a merry little Christmas tree. They want a big one. When city officials planted a 7-foot-tall Christmas tree next to a 20-foot-tall menorah in the plaza in front of City Hall, some residents barked. They telephoned City Hall, wrote letters and testified at a public hearing that the tiny tree in the shadow of the huge Hanukkah symbol was an insult to the Christian community."

Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y From a post in the weirdjews community: "If this is OH SO BAD and intolerable, imagine what Jews have felt like since, oh, I don't know, forever? I guess according to this logic, it's an insult to Jews to see a bigger Christmas tree next to a smaller menorah. But for some reason I haven't seen any news stories about that..."

The story on James McCartney in my previous post (the last story on the page) was quite surprising, enlightening and inspirational. To me, anyway. Hmmm ~~ John, Paul, George & Ringo could very well be reborn in Julian, James, Dhani & Zak.
Aw hell, why MUST we limit this to four? Julian, Sean, James, Dhani & Zak! THE AFTERBEATLES! ( Read more... )
