Hi!
Your computer-disabled eppylover is taking one moment at Niece Kelly's house to drop a little rant on y'all, and call it a Sunday Sermon. LOL. Sadly, I still can't read my emails or LJ comments or access other sites, but the following item has pissed me off enough to take the niece's computer away for a few minutes.
The issue is about the comments in this BeatlePics post saying ~~ "isn't this a bit late? lol" etc ~~ don't these people realize that the vatican FORGIVING John is a snarky INSULT? Whether or not it was an intentional insult, that's exactly what it comes down to.
All John was saying was that it's ironic (and maybe a shame) that a frickin' rock band was more popular (drew more attention, was idolized more) than jesus, who is supposed to be the son of their god and all that. And he added that what this observation foretold to him, and made him believe, was that religion itself would disappear sooner or later.
John had tossed off that little statement in an obscure British interview, and had since forgotten it ~ but Datebook Magazine in the U.S. picked it up and printed it. From there, a couple of southern deejays happened across it, and used it as a promo to stir up people, simply to pimp their station ~ and to their surprise and pleasure, it caught fire and blew up all out of proportion. America ran all over John and the boys, and poor Brian was pulled out of a sickbed to fly across the pond and battle this worthless insanity.
If you want to hear an extremely rare sound bite about it, Johnny Carson interviewing Brian on The Tonight Show in August 1966, please go HERE and click the little red arrow thingy there ... and what Larry Blyden says at the end, well, he says it all.
To fundamentalists, any objective, rational observation is threatening ~ it gravely undermines their brainwashing efforts, so they have a kneejerk defensive reaction. Consequently, they succeeded in turning John's little remark around to sound like a diss.
So now in 2008, in the wake of Israel's apology to Brian's boys for snubbing them in the 60s ~ the vatican, instead of issuing an much-overdue apology to Lennon for the hurtful brou-ha-ha, on behalf of all Christian religions (because historically Catholicism came first, and all others are offshoots) ~ instead, his holiness & company decided to belittle his memory by pompously "forgiving" him. eppylover says: Hey pope man! ~this is the way it is ~ if someone ran you over with a car, should the driver be forgiving you? And then to top it off, the vatican smears a load of insincere gratuitous bullshit flattery in Lennon's general direction ~ i.e., how wonderful The Beatles were. Oh goodie. That makes everything all better, doesn't it?
If you know John Lennon, you KNOW he would consider the vatican's "forgiveness" ~ and their shallow and meaningless flattery of his band ~ to be a slap in the face.
Rant over. Going back to my computerless home now.
BTW, I would appreciate anyone who is on the Fifth Beatle forum to kind of cover for me if they can ~ I don't have a chance to get to anything but this little post here.
Signing off now ~ lotsa love to everyone, hope to be able to read and respond to y'all before year's end. ♥

In case you haven't heard what happened on TV last night, I felt compelled to take a moment and find this on YouTube.
I still maintain my disdain for ALL things political, but to me this stinks as more of a moral issue ~ this reeks of disrespect.
Late last night, Stephy and I sat on my bed with our mouths open in almost-disbelief ~ watching what McCain did to Letterman ~
I hope lots of people paid attention.
( I commend Dave for at least admitting that he feels sorry for McCain, in case he had been misled by his managers... ) _____________ EDIT: Also see the vid of Ferguson's take on the situation ~ included in my reply (behind the cut) to Leigh's comment. I especially love his opinion of the Wall St. buyout. Spot on, Craig! :D

Let me know what you think of this! Or better yet, let Mr Havers know, as a comment on his blog!
Should Brian Epstein Be Like Porridge By Richard Havers
There's news today of a plan by Liverpool City Councillors to erect a statue to Brian Epstein. It reminds me of the ironic wisdom of Spike Milligan. Why is there no monument To Porridge in our land? It it's good enough to eat, ... _____________ Then, awww, go on and read the commentary after Mr Havers' post. :)

Not because I'm overly paranoid, but to avoid any potential unpleasantness ~ well, slap me and call me a little bit paranoid, then ~ in any case, I do not wish for Jack Chick's webmaster to trace me back as a hostile linked site.
So please copy & paste the following url into your browser's address space to read the comic "Chick Tract" ~ Where's Rabbi Waxman? ~ it's way beyond ridiculous wuddafookery, but those coulterfundie Xians really do get off on it:
http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0014/0014_01.asp
NOW, have patience and read the following excerpt from an outstanding sermon by Rabbi Steven Fuchs ~ it serves as a brilliant answer to Chick's creepy blatherings:
...And so, my hope: Let us live side by side in mutual respect and peace. Mutual respect precludes belittling the integrity of our religion as it is. If Jesus brings fulfillment and satisfaction and meaning in life to Christians, I say it again, I am happy for them. But Jesus plays no role, no role whatsoever in the religious thinking of the Jew.
( You see, there are three major claims which Christians make for Jesus ) Rabbi Fuchs SO wins this one.

| » Brian Epstein More Than Deserves The LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT Induction!!! |
Damn.
I just noticed that, besides the regular "non-performer" category, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts the occasional non-performer for Lifetime Achievement!
( It highly burned my butt that... )
Besides Frank Barsalona, for the life of me, I cannot understand WHY they inducted John Hammond first ~ the talent agent who discovered Count Basie and Benny Goodman ~ rather than The Man Who Made The Beatles. Brian GAVE his life achieving their permanent position in history!
Did I say I cannot understand? Well, I'll take that back ~ yeah, actually I CAN understand. See, Hammond was still alive the year he was inducted. So, it was obviously for the reasons I stated in this comment here. Money and power. Which Brian cannot provide for the voters, because he's been dead too many years, and "certain people" ~ the four he loved more than all others ~ let him fade away.
You know, I'm putting my faith in Eppy lovers such as Vivek Tiwary, Katie Hickox, Martin Lewis, etc. to reverse the trend his own Boys have allowed ~ nay, encouraged ~ to happen.
And I hope, hope, hope that I have played just a little part in someday soon bringing Brian Epstein back up where he belongs. Which is, equal to his boys. :)

POST HIGHLY EDITED AUG 31, 2007 ANOTHER SMALL EDIT AUG 19, 2009
FROM: What Goes On.com
Liverpool remembers Brian Epstein WHAT GOES ON BEATLES NEWS EXCLUSIVE by Katie Hickox
Brian Epstein, the Beatles manager who brought the Beatles out of Liverpool and engineered their success, was remembered yesterday throughout the city of Liverpool on the 40th anniversary of his death, August 27, 1967.
Last night's Liverpool Beatles Week concert at the Empire Theatre featured some original Merseybeat bands from the late fifties and sixties, and the concert was dedicated to the memory of Brian Epstein. Brian had helped launched Gerry & The Pacemakers and was well-known by local Liverpool groups. Other bands that played were Karl Terry, The Undertakers, The Searchers and The Fourmost.

A special memorial ceremony to remember Brian was held at the Jewish Cemetery on Long Lane, Fazakerley, Liverpool, where Brian's gravesite is located. It is a mystery as to who brought the beautiful flowers that are shown in this picture.
The Beatles Story in its gift shop throughout the day displayed "40 Years Ago, Brian Epstein died, August 27th, 1967. Remember Brian" on its large plasma display screen above the cashiers. Additionally the Beatles Story displayed new items for the new Brian Epstein 40th anniversary memorial exhibition that opened up on Sunday. Published August 29, 2007
Eppylover Note: The above-mentioned new Eppy items on display were donated by the same nice lady who wrote the above article, Katie Hickox!
She most graciously emailed to me a peek at some of them, as displayed at Beatles Story:
She also took the photo of Brian's grave with the flowers.
THANK YOU, KATIE!
Another article on the exhibition, by the Liverpool Echo
Eppylover thought: Know how I often sadly remark that Brian's Boys never did a Concert For Eppy?
Well, Gerry Marsden and the Merseybeat Bands beat them to it ~ and, (as noted in Katie's article), performed at the Empire in Liverpool on August 27, 2007 in a show called Dedicated To The Memory of Brian
As my flisters are well aware, the eppylover is old, blunt and curmudgeonly ~ I tend to spout my opinionated views quite often. In that vein, at the risk of pissing off fans who think The Beatles are above all castigation, Brian's number-one Boys should hang their heads in shame. It should have been his dear Beatles, or at least one or two of them, doing this concert ~ and they had years and years worth of opportunity to get a gig together. Instead, it was finally left to the second-string Boys. *sigh*
Corinne, one of the members of BeatleLinks Fab Forum, username oldbeatlechick,, from Southampton, UK, posts: "I attended this show and what a show it was, Brian would have been so proud of his performers, they really did his memory proud..." Thanks, Gerry. You were one of Brian's most loyal confidantes, and you are truly top of the pops! Rock on!
In one of the published articles on this year's tributes to Brian, Rex Makin stated: "There has been agitation for a memorial to Brian in Liverpool. I don't think that is necessary. His memorial is in the universal success of The Beatles." I disagree. He may still be well-known in England, but so many people in the US don't even know who he was, even Beatle fans. Several flisters of mine can back me up on this. And really, Brian himself was the type who would be thrilled by the attention ~ on the inside, that is ~ because he usually showed a shy reticence to adulation. But you know he'd love it nevertheless.
( plaques )Criteria for receiving a blue plaque on a former residence of an honoured person: In order to be eligible for an English Heritage blue plaque, a figure must have been dead for twenty years or have passed the centenary of their birth, whichever is the earlier.
Nominated figures must also meet the following criteria: be considered eminent by a majority of members of their own profession; have made an outstanding contribution to human welfare or happiness; have resided in a locality for a significant period, in time or importance, within their life and work; be recognisable to the well-informed passer-by, or deserve national recognition.
In cases of foreigners and overseas visitors, candidates should be of international reputation or significant standing in their own country.
It should also be noted that: EH plaques can only be erected on the actual building inhabited by a figure, not the site where the building once stood; buildings marked with plaques should be visible from the public highway; unless a case is deemed exceptional, a single person may not be commemorated with more than two plaques nationwide; proposals are be considered for the commemoration of sites of special historical interest. [ Source ]
IT'S A DISGRACE Katie feels it's a disgrace that the City of Liverpool has never erected a plaque in front of Brian's childhood home at 197 Queens Drive in the Childwall area of Liverpool, even though at least three have been put up for John Lennon in different sites. Brian truly deserves, for once, to be honoured ahead of a Beatle or two.
Martin Lewis feels it's a disgrace that so many other, almost anonymous non-performers have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (See my old post on that travesty), and Brian has been cluelessly omitted.
Christine agrees with most of the above (except for the plaques, which understandably can only be installed if the current residents don't mind being bothered by large Beatle fan mobs daily ~ see below reply to Anonymous commenter) ~ and christine also feels it's a disgrace that Brian has never been posthumously knighted ~ well, at least received a posthumous MBE. He more than deserved one when his Boys received theirs!
How many more times can I say the word disgrace?
Can you think of any other ways Brian Epstein can be remembered and assured his place in history as an equal alongside The Beatles? Thank you!

| » "Beatles Biggest Secrets" Trash Dump |
This post is regarding that special that was excreted upon us, from the BBC America channel (which is not available where I live). ( Read more... ) Barrow makes it seem to us that Brian, being a homosexual, of course had no morals, so the prostitutes HAD to have been his doing.
I'll agree that he often cleaned up after their messes. I'd guess that he was following his parents' example, and adopted the method they used to buy their son out of his gay troubles with the police.
The Beatles were gonna do what they were gonna do, regardless of what their manager wanted, and poor Bri didn't know how else to protect them and their careers.
*sigh*
