Beatles Anthology Director's Cut ~ exactly what's in it ~ ?!?! May. 9th, 2008 @ 12:56 pm
Complete description of the contents of the Beatles Anthology Director's Cut bootleg 10-DVD set )

~*~~*~

Hee hee ~ you're welcome!

Directors Cut up on YouTube ~ hurry! May. 9th, 2008 @ 12:22 pm
FLASH! Before it's deleted by the bigwigs, the entire BOOTLEG version of Anthology is up on YouTube ~

~ It's called The Beatles Anthology Director's Cut ~ occasionally you find it on the black market in the form of ten (that's right, 10) DVD's, and it keeps getting banned by eBay every time they find someone is trying to sell copies.

The difference between the regular Anthology and the Director's Cut?

Well! This bootleg has more than twice as much material that was changed and deleted, from what Apple & the Threetles-Plus-Yoko picked over and chose to sell to the public. This director's cut is a copy of the first version that was submitted for their approval, and believe you me, the for-sale version that you own is all butchered up!

All the links to the videos on YouTube have been posted on { THIS BOARD } of the forum for your convenience.

Watch 'em as soon as you can, because I'll bet they won't be up for long!!!

For further info and commentary about it ~
{ HERE } is a post I made about this bootleg set, back on February 15. Cheers!

Neil Aspinall is dead. Mar. 24th, 2008 @ 01:21 pm
*** THIS POST EDITED, REVISED & HIGHLY ADDED-TO ***

Neil Aspinall Dies at 66

Lung cancer, age 66

The original and only officially Eppy-assigned Beatles biographer, Hunter Davies, does an obit on Neil ~
Beatles fixer and friend takes secrets to the grave
~ here's an excerpt ~
Neil Aspinall was one of only two people of any importance in the Beatles saga who never told their story. Which is strange, when you think we've had a thousand Beatles books these last 40 years. I asked him countless times, saying he should get it all down, before it's too late, if just for his children. He always said no.

Sir George Martin actually sent a letter to the The Times UK (printed at end of this article)(this article) )

~*~~*~

George Martin's letter
œ          Although Brian Epstein spent an enormous amount of time trying to get a recording contract for the Beatles, he found that literally every label in England would turn them down, including EMI of which I was a small part. Neil Aspinall was overshadowed by Brian in those days, but his closeness to the Beatles made him the ideal person to take over the reins. He fitted the part as if he were born to it and he astonished the big players in the record business with his acumen. Maybe he said "No"™ too many times, but his overriding thought was always to protect the four Beatles in the frenzy that he had to deal with. No one can imagine the stress of handling the group, for everyone in the world wanted them. His business decisions were sound, and the fact that the Beatles are acknowledged to be the greatest of our stars is his legacy. He was an unassuming and loving family man, and a very good friend, loyal and faithful to the end.
We will all miss him, and so will the world.”

George Martin, Coleshill, Wilts

~*~~*~

Also, a letter from another old comrade was printed there
(at which point christine thinks of [info]rooftopconcert allison)

Neil was an okay guy...very dedicated to his mates The Beatles. He kept their ship afloat though occasional rough seas and managed their finances and new projects brilliantly.
Sometimes his single-mindedness left him misunderstood by those who didn't appreciate his determination to take care of the Beatles legacy.
Sleep well Neil...you've well earned it!!

He's the executive who refused to sign the Beatles, after Brian Epstein brought the quartet to him for a disastrous audition in 1962. .....by the way..... I thoroughly agree with Blender Magazine (who?) in their choice for the number one music boo-boo of all time. Which is: the clueless, paranoid, greedy record industry's hissy-fit over Napster, and its subsequent censorship/mishandling of the internet's filesharing potential.

They have hung themselves with their own rope and [in a premonitory tone not unlike Eppy's] I gleefully pronounce them a dead industry walking.

» FYI ~ Ever hear of the Director's Cut of the Beatles Anthology?

Hahaa, seems like every time I find this on eBay, it gets terminated/deleted by eBay before anyone is able to win it!

Anthology~1993 Director's Cut

Y'know, the final version of Anthology that YOU all are familiar with, the one for sale in general, REMOVED much of the originally-compiled story and details to include as much TV and concert footage as possible ~ so, deleted were many, many uncut and uncensored interviews!

Read the description on eBay and see if you wish to try for it ~ maybe eBay won't find it and take it off the market in time ~ or maybe you'll want to make a note of it so, someday, you may wish to try to locate this treasure again.

It's obvious that what you see in this Director's Cut is what the director and production team assembled and presented to the band ~ before numerous change requests were made.

BTW, it is NOT I who is selling this ~ in fact, I have no earthly idea who "legend_daddycool" is ~ I simply want to pass the info on to y'all in case you've never heard of this before.
_____
...pssssst! If indeed you do buy this, thank me by letting me know if any mentions of Eppy are included that didn't make it into the retail version!

I am terribly sorry to hear about Brian Epstein. I'll say Mass for him Sept. 5. Did I ever tell you that once on a radio program he was asked to name his favorite book and named The Seven Storey Mtn., only with its English title, Elected Silence?
[Eppylover Note: Merton's referring to his own book]

I always felt closer to him after that -- glad, of course, that he brought out the Beatles. Glad they are working on their meditation.

[Eppylover Note #2: Brian had nothing against meditation, but he was quite worried about their dalliance with the Maharishi ~ because he believed Maha was taking gross advantage of his Boys ~ and he was proven right, y'know. :/ ]

Update (12/4/07) )

» Today's Brianage

Unusual for me to sit and read non-Eppy Beatles stuff, especially matter covering the periods BB and AB (Before Brian and After Brian). Very unusual.

My Google Blogs Alert email gave me two short lines for an entry "By Allyn" called On the Lennon Listen — Before the Break-Up ~~ "...But he also had a bad year — his drug intake increased, and long-time manager Brian Epstein died. 1968 was the year where Lennon began to separate himself from the Beatles..."

I clicked in and started reading. And reading. And reading...

As Mr Spock would say, "Fascinating."

If you Beatlemaniacs have heard it all before, though, I'm sorry... as I said, I am comparatively ignorant of the Boys in their BB and AB periods.

BTW, Allyn Gibson had also posted a most lovely August 27 entry on our Brian.

Rare Lennon Recording In Ad
November 14, 2007
SOURCE: courant.com

Yoko Ono sold John Lennon's rare home recording of "Real Love" to JC Penney for a commercial.

The spot began showing Sunday night during ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," before JC Penney could even make the announcement.

The Beatles have had their songs licensed for commercials in the past, but with the rare exception of perhaps "Revolution" years ago, they never have allowed master recordings out. The songs are always re-recorded.

» The Beatles are DANGEROUS ~ like Rudolph Valentino!
Parents! Watch your children!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vicAOQ6QDGsa

Today's concert-goers do not seem to realize that, before Brian's Boys, nobody used to scream and carry on like they do now. Even when Elvis performed it was not nearly that bad. A lot of parents were truly worried ~ this outlandish behavior just seemed wrong!

The above vid might make it a little clearer how very much things changed due to Beatlemania. XD

It was either Debbie Geller or Ray Coleman speaking with Queenie when she recalled how Brian kept asking her to describe the same kind of behavior, the hysteria that went on around Rudolph Valentino in the 1920's.

No doubt the Valentino Effect came to mind the first time Bri visited the Cavern with Alistair Taylor! :D

Example of Valentino onscreen ~

Rudolph Valentino died the same week (41 years earlier) as Brian.

Hats off to Heather McCartney. Yes, I know that she is chillingly, pointlessly mad, but I can’t help feeling that she is doing our nation some service.

So when I rang to cadge some pro-Heather quote off a friend who knows her, explaining that I was experiencing some mild but not unduly alarming feelings of warmth towards the woman and was considering writing something nice – or at any rate not too horrible – about her, it didn’t go well.
