Sunday Sermon ~ Marcus Brigstocke, Shalom Auslander, Eddie Izzard, H.L. Mencken, Ali G

As always, please do not click into and read my Sunday blatherings if you may possibly be upset by antifaith rants.

I do not wish to offend ~ I love all my flisters, whether or not they embrace a religion ~

However, the eppylover must have her one day/week to indulge in her own non-beliefs and vent her frustrations, so please be patient and forgiving!

Whew, such a lot of nontheist entertainment in store for today!
Maybe it's because I'm celebrating the absence of the Og until next Saturday ~ although, in all conscience, I should not celebrate his attempts to kill animals ~ but he's gone nonetheless, so... *heaves big sigh*

I had never heard of him before I found this, but now I dearly heart him.
On July 20, 2007, stand-up comedian Marcus Brigstocke delivered the seven-minute rant on the evils of religion (video below) on BBC Radio 4's Now Show.

I also found out that Marcus is the original creator
of the joke we've all heard since ages ago:
"If Pac-Man had affected us as kids,
we'd all be running around in dark rooms,
munching pills and listening to
repetitive electronic music."

Here's the rant. It's brilliant.

For those of you without sound on your pc's here's a transcription.

SHALOM AUSLANDER JUSTIFIES HIS BELIEF IN A CREATOR
From An Interview with Shalom Auslander

Q. Is it important to keep it alive, the idea of a Creator?

A. That’s the trouble. It’s important to me personally, but I wish the rest of the world wouldn’t believe in Him.

Because I trust myself. I’m not going tell my kid nasty shit. I’m not going to blow myself up. I’m not going to start claiming land is mine because God says so. I’m not going to go there.

I’ll believe it because it makes me feel a little better about myself ~ everybody else, just go with Dawkins. He’s right. It’s much safer down that road.

QUOTES FROM H.L. MENCKEN

"Religion is fundamentally opposed to everything
I hold in veneration--courage, clear thinking,
honesty, fairness, and, above all, love of the truth."

"We must respect the other fellow's religion,
but only in the sense and to the extent that
we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful
and his children smart"

      ~ H.L. Mencken
